Without/With

Submitted without comment.

And now a comment. I don’t remember always watching Mr. Rogers, but I do remember loving him when I did. There was something so coolly uncool about him, so grandfatherly hip. That video brought that all back. I share this with all of you because we always deserve the chance to remember what it is like to be that innocent kid who liked the old guy wearing the cardigan. Little did Mr Rogers know that he was impacting a generation of kids to embrace his style. Now I can’t walk twenty feet into Brooklyn without running into five or six hipsters dressed like him.

  1. (The hyperlink didn’t work for me, but cutting and pasting the text URL worked fine.)

I vividly remember the day when I realized that most of the puppet characters were being voiced by Mr Rogers. The show lost a bit of its magic for me after that.

I always thought it’d be cool to have a train that can carry things from one room of the house to another.

  2. I saw this last night. Brought a smile to my face I don’t remember watching a lot of Mr. Rogers, I much prefered Sesame Street and The Electric Company. I kinda thought all the puppets on his show were substandard and boring. But I enjoyed it if I was watching it.

“Grandfatherly hip”….I hope I’m lucky enough to one day be described as such. 🙂

    HUGS….

  3. We didn’t have Mr. Rogers when I was a kid. We had Mr. Dressup and the Friendly Giant with his substandard chicken puppet Rusty who lived on a book bag in the castle and hung out with a giraffe named Jerome.

Mr. Dressup had puppets named Casey and Finnegan. What ‘s with all the puppets on kids’ shows ? I’ll try and post links later. Can’t from much phone. Oh yeah and there was a kitten rock band on Friendly Giant. Puppets of course.
