Biggest Cock & Rudest Loser 3: Week 11

Our tenth week is complete! Today our contestants celebrate ten weeks into the cockiest and rudest weight loss competition evahhhh! It’s Biggest Cock & Rudest Loser 3!

As we begin the 11th week of BC&RL3, we take a peek at somewhere BC&RL has never gone before … into the cupboards! Much like our ‘in the fridge’ week, this week we take a look inside each of our contestant’s cupboards, pantries, or wherever they’re storing their non-refrigerated foodstuff.  Check it out!


TwoPi
Our pantry is a converted broom closet. The top two shelves hold liquids (olive oil, vinegar, key lime juice, Thai fish sauce, etc…), while the next two shelves are mostly canned goods (lots of pineapple, tuna, various soups, tomatoes, etc….) The lowest shelves (mostly off camera) have non-food items, such as trash bags and various food storage items. I mostly use the stuff on the top two shelves; the rest of the pantry mostly consists of forgotten items lost in the transition from grocery bag to dust bin.


Tam
This could be called my Carb Cupboard (sorry Polt). This picture shows it tidier than it sometimes is, and messier than at other times. The top shelf is carb heaven – pasta, noodles, mac & cheese and rice; second shelf is canned goods and things like drink mixes; third shelf is breakfast stuff – cereal, juice (and ice-cream toppings – not so breakfasty); fourth shelf is snacks – crackers, chips, popcorn, little fruit cup thingies for lunches; bottom shelf is trash bags, light bulbs and potatoes. There is a shelf above you can’t see, but it is empty juice jugs, vases and booze. Ahem.


Mr. Sombrero
All I have are spices and shit. I’m going for the win. Vote for me in The Messiest A** Pantry – 2012. Yeah, no comment.


Ryan
Most of my non-refrigerated food is in these three cupboards. The others contain some spices and extra dry goods. Note the supply of oatmeal, raisins, and cinnamon ready for breakfast.


Polt
So this week, we’re talking what’s in our cupboard. In my cupboards all I have are dishes, glasses, Tupperware, that sorta stuff. I do have a pantry, but I use that for storage purposes. And I have a series of shelves in the cellar way, but they only contain some cans of soup, green beans, spaghetti-O’s, fruit salad, some salad dressing and a lonely can of tuna. Most of my non-refrigerated food I just store on my counter top like so: cereal, popcorn, peanut butter, whole wheat bread, spray cheese, sugarless caramels, Pringles, and Crystal Light. I don’t eat the pathetic looking plant there, I’ve had Janis for about ten years, longer than any plant I’ve ever had.


Mikey
You can see that I keep my kitchen cabinets better stocked than the fridge. That is influenced by the fact that I am obsessed with having every possible spice on hand in case it ever comes up in an exotic recipe. AND I DON’T HAVE THEM ALL YET. You can also see healthy olive oil on one shelf and brown rice on the other. See…I am trying.

We have a tiny cupboard. Here’s what’s in it.
1. coffee (for Harry) tea and hot chocolate
2. canned vegetables and beans
3. nuts, popcorn, raisins, nuts and emergency chocolate
4. rice, pasta, lentils, Asian noodles
5. bread, soup, vegetable and chicken broth
6. cooking oils, hot sauce, pasta sauce, peanut butter
7. cereal, granola bars, pretzels, crackers
8. baking stuff
9. Harry’s breakfast fixings (oatmeal and stuff to make it taste good).


Adam
Left top: teas, oatmeal, olive oil. Left middle: Emergen-C, random ingredients, soy sauce, pepper oil, balsamic vinegar. Bottom left: lots of spices and seasonings. Top right: flour, rice, sugars. Middle right: Indian food, raisins, Maggi noodles, lentils, popcorn. Bottom right: canned veggies, sauces and vitamins.

The Unadventurous Eater: Adam’s Beanie Burgers


No pork. No seafood. No cheese. No tofu, mayonnaise, yogurt, eggs, horseradish, mustard, mushrooms, etc., etc. I’m a little picky when it comes to food. Harry and I have determined that if I ever had a cooking show it would be called “The Unadventurous Eater.” I’m always on the lookout for new recipes with ingredients that don’t gross me out. So when Adam told me about his Black Beanie Burgers – Mr. Sombrero Approved! I couldn’t wait to try out the recipe. Here it is:

2 15oz cans of black beans, rinsed and drained
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 small onion, minced
2 tsp. Creole seasoning
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup flour
1 cup frozen corn
optional: Add some hot pepper seeds or cayenne pepper to give them some extra flavor.

Makes about 10-12 burgers (depending on how big u make your patties).

Mix and smoosh (works best if you use your hands) all ingredients. Form into patties and freeze for a few hours or until they’re fully frozen. If you’re in a big rush, don’t bother freezing them and just throw them on the grill — but they stay together better if you freeze em first.

Cook frozen patty on a George Forman-style grill or frying pan with a little bit of olive oil spray until they brown a bit (maybe 10 minutes? I’ve never really timed it). I liked to squish them a little in the GF grill about 1/2 way through.

Suggested topping: grilled cubanelle or bell peppers, grilled mushrooms, lettuce and a smear of roasted red pepper hummus. Serve on a toasted English muffin instead of a hamburger roll. Mmmm.

When I cook, I like to put on some music. I thought Adam Ant would be appropriate, but I don’t have any on my player, so I put on some Andy Gibb. Adam, Andy, whatever.

Next I had Harry pour me some wine. When I cook, I also like to drink. Harry is having a beer, because as he says, “If you’re not drinking with me, you’re drinking against me.” When Harry is hungry his eyes turn red. And stop looking at our brown lawn. That’s going to be replaced this summer after we tear out the patio.


Here I am enjoying my beloved Beringer’s in a plastic champagne glass. Klassy! I do have fancy wine glasses, but I have to hand wash them and that is just too much for me to deal with. Cheers!


Here are the ingredients. I bought the Creole seasoning especially for this recipe. Speaking of Creole, I just finished watching season 1 and 2 of True Blood. My favorite character is Lafayette! Isn’t he the best? LOVE him!


Exactly! HBO is free for us this weekend, so I get to watch Season 3. By the time you read this I will have had a True Blood pajama marathon! It’s good to be me.


How big is a small onion anyway? The store pretty much has one size. So I just cut it in two and used half.


Doesn’t this look delicious? The smooshing was fun.


Balls! Tee hee. After I flattened them, I froze them for about 2 hours.


If you don’t have a George Foreman grill, I highly recommend one.


Here is Harry assembling his burger. He put everything Adam suggested on his. I skipped the mushrooms, peppers and hummus (I don’t like tahini). Luckily for Harry and for Adam, the hummus was not too garlicky and Harry didn’t have to sleep on the couch. Yay!


Here is the beauty shot. I also made sweet potato fries and steamed some broccoli. So what did we think of Adam’s Beanie Burgers – Mr Sombrero approved!?

*Yes we eat on tv trays. Once again, keeping it Klassy.


They were terrific! I think next time I make them, I’ll put in a little more cayenne pepper. We like it spicy. I might also see what happens if I put in a little less flour. But in all, Adam’s Beanie Burgers – Mr. Sombrero approved! were delicious. They taste great, are easy to make (not much prep work is needed), are super healthy and are very versatile. The next day Harry put one on a tortilla and I had my burger with barbecue sauce, chips and a pickle. I’m going to try one tomorrow with salsa.

*That’s berry flavored iced tea (yuck). I totally had more chips than are in the photo. I didn’t want to look like a pig.

Biggest Cock & Rudest Loser: Week 10

Last week you eliminated me and now you expect me to write a post about all the people that are still competing in Biggest Cock & Rudest Loser 2?  Nice.  Real nice.  This week we asked all the remaining contestants (not me) what food they missed the most.  Here’s what all those jerks had to say…


FDot: Well, sometimes I feel like having a nut and sometimes I don’t.  Luckily, Peter Paul’s Almond Joy’s got nuts and Peter Paul’s Mounds don’t.  Almond Joy’s got real milk chocolate, coconut and munchy nuts too, while Mounds has deep, dark chocolate and chewy coconut, ooooo *shivers*.  But alas, with the competition there is no chewy coconuts or nuts for that matter.  I also miss greatly 100,000 Grand Bars, 3 Musketeers, Airheads, Baby Ruth Bars, Butterfingers, Caramellow Bars, Chuckles, Chunkys, Dots, Dove Bars, Swedish Fish, Fun Dip, Goobers, Good & Plenty, Junior Mints, Kit Kats, Krackle Bars, M&M’s, Mike & Ikes, Milk Duds, Milky Way Bars, Nerds, Nestle Crunch, Paydays, Raisinets, Reeses, Ring Pops, Rolos, Skittles, Snickers, Starbursts, Tootsie Rolls, Twix Bars, Twizzlers, Whatchamacallits, and York Peppermint Patties, because when I bite into one, I get the sensation of being in a fresh Spring day, romping through a meadow with a family of gazelles at my side.


Jere: I miss ice cream. I haven’t had any ice cream in months. I miss picking up a pint of Ben & Jerry’s on the way home and pretending like I had a boyfriend who broke up with me giving me an excuse to watch chick flicks and pig out.


Mush: After eight weeks on a regular calorie-restricting diet, I was going batshit. I was craving pizza and Mexican food and bread like you wouldn’t believe. My daily caloric intake skyrocketed from 1500 calories per day to 2300. I was craving food all the time. So I switched to a no-refined-carbs approach instead: no white flour, no white sugar, no white rice. Hunger problems are solved because my fat and protein intakes are up, and I’ve lost an inch off my waist and half an inch off my neck in the five days I’ve been doing it! (I’ve also gained three pounds, but historically that will be because The Curse™ is on its way.) I’m interested in seeing how this approach – which appears to regulate insulin and therefore adipose fat deposits – works. It’s certainly easier than merely counting calories, even though I find that my calorie intake stays down where I want it to with much less effort. Cheese and eggs and Caesar salads for everyone!


Paul: I have to say the one food that I truly miss is Ciao Bella Key Lime Graham Gelato.  This stuff is better than sex, which is good because the F.U.P.A. building calorie count on this stuff will guarantee your wee-wee is in constant shadow. Of course, my grocery store has had this buy one get one free since January so when I get home from grocery shopping every week I stick pins in this voodoo doll and write my blurb.


Ryan: I miss being able to get fast food without spending fifteen minutes looking at online menus to figure out what on the menu, eating things in the cafeteria that aren’t easy to figure out what the ingredients are and how much, and being and to bake cookies for myself.
