I Love Lucy, and Darlene, and Natalie, and Nellie, and Joan, etc., etc.

In case you didn’t know, I LOVE T.V. Here are some characters that have entertained me through the years.

Lucy, she was always coming up with those harebrained ideas and getting into trouble.
Lucille Ball was a comic genius.

Dr. Gregory House. He’s sarcastic, witty and smarter than everyone in the room.
I’m going to miss him when the season ends.

Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Who doesn’t love a bad boy? And one with an accent?

The Trio from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Warren, Andrew and Jonathan were the funniest,
nerdiest villains to terrorize Sunnydale.

Pat MacDougall (Amy’s Mom), as played by Georgia Engel on Everybody Loves Raymond.
Soft spoken Pat stole every scene she was in.

Darlene from Roseanne. Sarcastic and mouthy – but never bratty,
Darlene was my favorite of the Conner kids.

Joan Harris (née Holloway) from Mad Men. Joan is the voice of reason in the crazy world of
Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. And she can rock a pen necklace like nobody’s business.

Stewie Gilligan Griffin from Family Guy. Funniest diabolical baby ever.

Bill McNeal from NewsRadio. Bill was a hilarious self-centered and pompous
doofus played by the late, great Phil Hartman.

Everyone knows I love Fat Betty (blam ba blam), so it should come as no surprise that I adore Fat Monica
from Friends. Fat Monica was so innocent, cheery and enthusiastic – and always a treat to watch.

Sue Sylvester from Glee. Though the writers have her go off the rails sometimes, I still love her.

Constance from American Horror Story. She is so very, very awful. But I loved it. Jessica Lange did a wonderful job portraying her – making her both nasty and sympathetic.

Natalie Green from Facts of Life. My favorite of the Eastland girls. Upbeat Natalie was always ready with a wisecrack. Too bad Natalie’s spinoff never came to be.

Dennis Finch from Just Shoot Me. Such a sarcastic little schemer. LOVED him.

Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle. Dewey was often lost in the shuffle. Because of this he had these weird little adventures that none of the family ever knew about. Some Dewey highlights for me were the episode with his pet fly Tony, and his dance with babysitter Bea Arthur.

Lafayette Reynolds from True Blood. Another scene stealer. He’s a gay, short-order cooking, drug dealing, road crewing, make-up wearing, butt kicking, fine black man. And I haven’t watched the last season yet, so who knows what else he’s been up to.

Nellie Olson from Little House on the Prairie. Nasty Nellie – Alison Arngrim made her so fun to watch!

Hiro Nakamura from Heroes. It was nice to see someone actually enthused about their super powers.

Veronica Mars. Whip smart, cute and funny. I miss Veronica and her sleuthing.

Wonder Woman, as played by Lynda Carter. Beautiful, strong and a great role model. WHERE IS HER MOVIE??!!

So who are your favorite television characters? Let me know in comments!

Oscar Contest Results-O-Rama!

Did you watch the Oscar awards on Sunday?  The whole show?  And you managed to stay awake?!  AMAZING!!  You deserve an award.  But too bad!  There’s only one award that we’re handing out today… the award for the 2nd Annual Cocky & Rude Oscar Contest!  This year’s winner correctly predicted 20 of the 24 Academy Award categories.  AND NOW … without further ado … (after all, why wait until the end of the post when the winner is someone who has never commented on C&R before?), the winner is: Bart Randall from Los Angeles, California!  Yippee!  Hurray!  Woohoo!!!  Congratulations!

Already in the mail and jetting its way to California is an assortment of seven movie theater-style candies, two packs of microwave popcorn and a brand new DVD of Lindsay Lohan in Walt Disney’s Herbie Fully Loaded!  Wow, what a great prize!

So how did I tabulate the results?  In a giant messy spreadsheet!  Check it out!

Here’s the full roundup of the results:

My favorite two category results were Best Cinematography and Best Actor in a Supporting Role.  Why, you ask?

It’s because 100% of the people that entered the 2nd Annual Cocky & Rude Oscar Contest chose the Best Cinematography winner incorrectly.  You’re all dummies!  (And so am I!)  In the Best Supporting Actor category, nearly everyone picked the correct winner (which was Christopher Plummer for Beginners) — EXCEPT Tam and Polt.  Ha!  They stink!  Lolz!

Each year we invite contest participants to predict the Best and Worst Dressed Academy Award celebrity attendee.  Since these categories are subjective, they do not count towards final scores.

This Year’s Best Dressed Predictions:

Meryl Streep, Viola Davis and Michelle Williams all tied for Best Dressed with three votes each.  Emma Stone was next with two votes, and then everyone else tied with one vote each.

This Year’s Worst Dressed Predictions:

Meryl Streep won Worst Dressed with three votes.  Glenn Close, Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara and Sacha Baron Cohen tied for second place with two votes each.  Everyone else tied with one vote each.

Congratulations to Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams for being our (predicted) Best AND Worst Dressed celebrities!  And Congratulations to Bart Randall for winning the 2nd Annual Cocky & Rude Oscar Contest! So what did you think of this year’s Oscar Awards?  Any surprises?  Who was the best & worst dressed of the night?  What did you think of Jennifer Lopez’s nip, Angelina Jolie’s emaciated leg, Billy Crystal’s break out from the old folks home, and the rest of Sunday night’s silliness?  Any thoughts for next year?  Who should host?  Do you even care about the Oscars?  Let’s discuss in the comments!!

It’s Taste Test Time!

There are certain brands that I always buy or order because I think that they are superior. But am I just being blindly loyal or do I really think they are the best? The only way to know is to compare them with their competitors in a blind taste test. *Harry and I did not taste anything in the same order.

We started with the chocolate (milk chocolate). I was looking forward to this the most, but I have to say, it was too much of a good thing. They all tasted fairly similar, and none really stood out in a good (or bad) way.

Godiva
Harry: not as creamy as the others
Michelle: creamy, sweet and chocolatey tasting, but in a generic way. My second favorite.

See’s
Harry: had a nutty taste (like hazelnuts or walnuts), kinda weird
Michelle: Reminds me of walnuts, has a hint of cocoa

Ghiradelli
Harry: he thought this tasted the same as the Trader Joe’s chocolate
Michelle: Has a really sweet aftertaste, too sweet. My least favorite

Trader Joe’s
Harry: same as the Ghiradelli
Michelle: has a little bit of saltiness, a chocolate aftertaste, very sweet

Hershey
Harry: not as milky as the others, but is more chocolatey
Michelle: This is Hershey’s, maybe my favorite, has a very subtle grittiness

Cadbury
Harry: Tastes less sweet than the others
Michelle: Mellow, very sweet, tastes like a chocolate Easter bunny, has a hazelnut aftertaste

Lindt
Harry: Has a caramel taste. Not my favorite.
Michelle: Creamy and sweet, very melty in the mouth

Dove
Harry: Less milky and more chocolatey, just chocolate
Michelle: I like the texture, a little sweet, maybe the most chocolatey

And the winners?

Harry – couldn’t pick one. They all tasted alike to him.

Michelle – Hershey’s. I could identify it right off the bat (so did Harry). I’m surprised one of the higher end bars didn’t come in first.

Next up were the cheesy poofs. I know, I don’t like cheese, but it’s okay on popcorn or a poof.
I think it’s a texture thing.

Cheetos
Harry: Cheesy. Poofy. Salty. This is my favorite.
Michelle: Cheesy all the way through.

Trader Joe’s (reduced fat)
Harry: Has a mild cheesy taste
Michelle: Has a milky taste, really sticks in your teeth

Little Bear
Harry: Most bland of all. It’s like a puff of air.
Michelle: No cheese taste at all. It tastes like a corn puff.

Safeway
Harry: Saltiness upfront, Some cheesy taste. My 2nd favorite.
Michelle: Has an upfront cheesy taste, You can taste the corn, is salty, probably my favorite

Smart Puff
Harry: Almost no cheese taste, has a hint of pepper
Michelle: Is very light, dissolves quickly into nothing, has a slight hint of cheese

Which was the best?

Michelle – I picked the Safeway brand

Harry picked the Cheetos brand. And though the Smart puffs didn’t taste very cheesy at all, we liked those to snack on.

We saved the “champagne” for last (we know it’s really sparkling wine, but we haven’t won the lottery to splurge on 5 bottles of the real stuff. So just play along). We’re also not “champagne” people (and especially not Brut – but it was only kind I could find enough varieties of). This may explain the following results.

Woodbridge
Harry: Thought this and the Chandon tasted the same.
Michelle: Bitter, very bitter. I don’t like it.

Chandon
Harry: See above
Michelle: It’s bitter and sour, middle of the road. I don’t like it.

Korbel
Harry: Thought it was similar to the Woodbridge and Chandon, but a little mellower.
Michelle: It’s bitter and has a sour taste. It’s my 2nd least favorite. I don’t like it.

Tott’s
Harry: Has a fruity taste, It’s the most mellow of them all.
Michelle: It’s bitter, but has a fruity taste up front. I don’t like it, but it’s the best of the bunch.

Cook’s (Harry had a devil of a time getting the damn cork out of this one)
Harry: Has a skunky smell. And a skunky taste. It’s my least favorite.
Michelle: Is bitter. Has a weird taste, Ew. I don’t like it. It’s my least favorite.

And the winners?

Harry – The Tott’s.

Michelle – They were all gross, but if I had to pick the least disgusting, it would be the Tott’s.

Do you have any ideas of how to make our leftover “champagne” more drinkable? Let us know in the comments and join us next time in the test kitchen as we taste the letter “T”!

The Five Vacation Bests

Adam and Michelle’s friendly five divided by two post last week inspired me to explore the math of the amazing number five. I know you have come to love (or loathe) my awesome super fantastic five videos to watch posts, but I’m getting tired of them. Luckily I was just on vacation and I was inspired to write the five best things about vacation and the five worst things about coming back from vacation. That’s the good news. The bad news is that you will have to wait an entire week to read all of these things because like any good blogger I have divided them up into two posts to make my life easier. So without further ado, I give you the five betterest best things about vacation.

Sun
Ok. So I know that I have been a strong advocate for banning summer all together. Something about the fact that I sweat and cry whenever the temperature gets above 50 degrees outside makes you wonder why I would say something zany like the sun is awesome. But when you are on vacation, you sit on the beach reading a book in the sun. This is inherently awesome. It combines my geekiness with my laziness. Score!

Books
Some people take a vacation and don’t make their brains do anything. I take a vacation and allow my brain to go into hyperdrive. I don’t even read beach fluff or anything; I go hardcore and read four relatively deep books. I loved it! Sure some people would think reading about poverty, abuse, Nazis and sexual repression are terrible things to read on the beach. Thankfully I am not them.

Sleep
Not having to get up to go to work has its benefits. The primary one being that I get to sleep like it is the weekend all the time. Yet unlike the weekend wherein I sleep in and then pay for it on Monday morning, I got to relax and just enjoy a prolonged period of getting up when I god damn feel like it. This is the superb.

Food
When on vacation, I take the chance to eat anything and everything. I go highbrow and lowbrow with my caloric intake. You might recall that my beach vacation is well known for the consumption of cheese balls, but you probably didn’t know that we added a new cheesy concoction to the mix: Combos! After all that faux cheese, I also enjoyed real cheese on sandwiches and tacos and in lasagna. I also ate the most magical food ever: Hush puppies. Yay!

Friends
I have been blessed to be able to go on a few trips recently. Between Jeopardy!, the cruise, and the beach vacation there has been one common thread: good company = an amazing time. Spending time with the people I love doing the four things above (not all of them with all of them) is one of the most amazing things I could have ever expected.

That’s it folks. My vacation was so awesome that I had to write about it. In a week you will remember this fondly as we trudge through why vacations ending is like the apocalypse. Until then, share your thoughts on my vacation bests and some thoughts about your vacation bests, too!
